23rd Annual Culture Days in Vladivostok, 27.9. – 6.10. 2019.
Last year (2018) the Days of the German culture were held under the theme of environmental protection. This year we have stepped a bit further and now we are trying to answer the question “Where is our world going to?” This topic is going to be raised at the discussion on Tuesday (October 1st, at 6:30 p.m.) at the Lutheran church. Global natural disasters which are occurring nowadays, including massive floods in Vladivostok, make us seek the answer to this question. People of all ages and occupations are going to discuss it in our church. In this respect the words from 1 Peter 4:7 “But the end of all things is near…” come to mind. Maybe it is not too late…
As usual, we are going to visit universities on Wednesday (2nd October). On Friday (October 4th at 3:00 p.m), there is a meeting held at the Gorky Municipal Public Library with university and school students who study German. On Monday (September 30th at 6:00 p.m.), there is a performance of the traditional German dances by the dance club of the St. Paul’s church.
On the occasion of the German Unity Day, the honorary consul of the Federal Republic of Germany Yaroslav Kotyk is giving a reception on the 3rd of October at 6:30 p.m. at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. (by invitation)
Music plays an important role in the celebration of the Cultural Days. On 27.09 (Friday) at 6:30 p.m., and on 28.09 (Saturday) at 5:00 p.m. and 29.09 (Sunday) at 5:00 p.m., a well-known organist Constanze Kowalski from Hamburg is giving concerts, where you will hear compositions of Johann Sebastian Bach and other composers, one of whom is from Vladivostok. Academic Choir of the Far Eastern Federal University under the direction of Elena Petukhova performs on 4.10 (Friday) at 6:30 p.m. and on 6.10 (Sunday) at 5:00 p.m. with a versatile program including German music. Two church services are going to take place on 29.09 (Sunday) and on 6.10 (Sunday), which is a Harvest Festival, at 11:00 a.m.
Important guests from Germany are going to pay us a visit: members of the mission from Hermannsburgh and, above all, a large delegation of Adolph Dattan’s ancestors. For a long time Adolph Dattan was the head of the famous German department store “Kunst & Albers” as well as the chairman of the St. Paul’s church in Vladivostok.
I express gratitude to all our partners and sponsors.
Manfred Brockmann, Pastor of St. Paul’s Church of Vladivostok
Former honorary consul of the Federal Republic of Germany
